On the Potomac in MD a local netter got into a mess of crappie and decided to keep several hundred pounds over two weeks in his catfish boxes. He went up into Washington DC at the local fish market on Maine Ave and managed to sell the fish to the many fish mongers that have open markets there. Large fish buckets where placed with signs at 1.00 per pound on iced down CRAPPIE. The first day all six fish boats sold 7 lbs total. It was a Friday and the fish market/wharf was packed with a huge buying public. Fact: the majority of shoppers in the DC fish market are not from this country. Next day Capt Steve White decided to do some creative marketing. He went out and re-wrote the sign to read
RAINBOW PERCH 2.00 per pound.. at the same time his hucksters bought all the crappie from the other dealers at 1.00 per pound.
He sold out that Saturday and Sunday and called the netter to deliver more and could not get any more..
