surely some one knows something about using a trolling plate.
i have a jon boat i thought about trolling with this summer but want go slow enough. has anyone ever used this product, if so what is your opinion about them.
Sam, I use a trolling plate on my 90 hp Yamaha. It works good, I can't remember the brand at the moment but I bought it at Cabelas. I've been using it for about 3 years now. Without the plate, the slowest my boat would troll was about 3 mph. With the plate, I can get it down to 1.5 sometimes 1.3 mph. They work. Good Luck

Autopilot or any variable speed trolling motor for a john boat is the way to go you didnt list any sizes so it is hard to suggest any thing that might help more than the other

Real men troll for crappie (Here Fishy Fishy !)
Electric power is the way to go. Better for the environment and your ears. All you need is a couple of batteries and you can troll all day. Should be cheaper in the long run even if you had to buy a trolling motor.
