An after market filter would probably work but I would stick with factory recommended filter.
My engine is bogging down every now and then and I want to replace the fuel filter. I have taken a picture of the filter below for reference. Is this the only filter it should have and do I need to replace it with the same identical filter or should any inline filter work?
Thanks

If its actually a 95 XRI it should have a water seperating filter on it as well.Looks like a small oil filter on the starboard side of the engine if I remember right.

prchjerker is right & you need to replace the water seperating filter at least once a year...You should have a wire coming from the bottom of the filter to sound a warning if the filter has too much water in it..Be sure & check to make sure the alarm is working...Originally Posted by sethook

When I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations I have a good day
My engine does have a water seperating filter. I talked to the guy that owned the boat before me and he never replaced it. He was like myself, didn't know it had one. I'm sure it has been several years. Do you replace the whole filter or is there a removable filter inside the canister?
BTW, I did change the smaller filter and it did not fix my problem. Still bogging down on take-off at times. Does that for a few minutes and finally picks-up and takes off.

According to my manual its a disposable canister type like an oil filter.
