    Default Sickle hooks?

Is it just me or do you find that you are loosing more fish with sickle hooks? After a close comparision I can see that they do have a much smaller barb than other hooks. I don't notice giving any more slack in the line than I ever have. I do like the sharp point on them.

we lose LESS with sickles. They get in the roof of the mouth below the nose and usually have to be removed with pliars.

what size hook are you using? I use nothing but sickle hooks on jigs and aberdeen style hooks with live bait. I almost always use a #1 or #2 hook, I have noticed that on the #4 hooks the gap between the shank and point seems to be smaller than a Mustad #4 jig hook. But so far I am very happy with them and they are very sharp.

On the smaller hooks, like #4 and #6, i open the gap a little wider so the hook points up a little more. Those are the only sizes i lost fish with. Not any more.

I really don't see an advantage in using the sickle hooks...I do know they will hang up more than regular hooks when fishing over brush piles..Most of my fishing is dock shooting and I don't lose many fish using regular hooks...I use #4..

To be totally honest I have to say I like the Sickles, but mostly because of the sharpness and not as much the bend. So I like regular bend hooks that are as sharp about as much as I do Sickles. I am pretty sure I was one of the first to use the Sickle hooks and somewhat made them popular here. Do get me wrong I didn't say I was first, but I was using them long before most were and again I like them because of how sharp they are. Once I tried them and saw how sharp they were I was sold and for a long time sold nothing but Sickle hook jigs, but I have expanded my stock and size/style of hooks a good bit. I am even going to start making some 1/4 & 1/8 oz. with #2 Sickle hooks in Black Marabou for the Green Carp fishermen as I know that is a killer bait in the spring and will catch them when nothing else will.

I also have some customers that don't like them for one reason or another and some of them do say they lose more fish using Sickle hooks. I don't notice that with my own fishing though.
