    Default Need Advise!!!!!! (Pic`s)

Having some trouble I need some advise. Once I catch crappie in my little honey hole I`m having trouble bringing them up they want to go right back in the tree tops and once they done that it`s history. I`ve tried to fish above the tops but they won`t bite. And also out from them a little. With no luck you almost have to put bait right in the tree tops. I`ve also tried to bring them up as quick as I can but they always win. Their in about 25 feet of water. With about 12 feet of visabily. If you look real good you can see a few slabs a laughing at me. I hope the pictures turn out where you can see some of the tree tops!

Is that Patoka? What depth do your trees top out at? Maybe the fish are holding deeper than the tops. Did you sink the cover yourself? If so, maybe place some shorter stuff around it that tops out deeper, so you can fish the depth you are hooking fish now without dipping into the trees. When I fish the real thick stuff like that I use a long rod, 10'-12' and jig straight up and down. Lower it slowly into the branches and as soon as you feel that tap, set the hook and bring the fish out in one motion. Of course, most the water I fish isn't quite that clear, so I can creep a lot closer with the boat. I can't see any way to throw into that from a distance and get many fish out unless they are willing to come out of there to hit the bait.

I would spool up with some 20# test powerpro braid. Drag the fish to the top. Or, make you a leader out of clothes hanger wire. Fish can's wrap you then.

Yes it`s in a strip pit hole. The trees were place in their. It`s in about 25 feet of water and the tops come up to about a foot under water depending on what time of season.

I would use this weld rod

and minnows rigged on a long rod with a bait caster spooled with 30 lb plus braid. Hold the weld rod directly over the brush and with your thumb let it go straight into the heavyest part of the brush. Thumb it down a bit hold a bit then let a little more off and hold a bit until you reach the bottom then slowly reel it back up holding it stationary at various intervals. The hook is smaller that what I would normally use but it was the first I could find for this picture. At times I will have a second hook rigged on the top part of the rod but realizing the other minnow will be shook off the hook as you bring a fish out of the water.
Once you get the feel of the rig you can tell if you no longer have a minnow on your rig.

What a cool problem. You fishing from shore or a boat?
Good things come to those who bait.

What about a length of coffee colored leader wire used in salt water. Stuff is piano wire thin and pretty easy to work with. Should be able to order some online. I used it fishing bass in brackish water blinds where the fish would come out, hit your worm, and boogie back into the cover. Wire may get bent and twisted, but usually wont break unless it gets kinked....

Sink a few more trees in front of the 1's already there, but deeper or below the existing trees, allowing the fish to move farther away from the cover and still be happy. just a thought
