I make my own double rigs. I can't stand all that extra wire. I watched Derick Fulton( DI on the Ga Board) tie his own double rigs and it s very easy and quick.
Do you ever use the EagleClaw Crappie rigs made for fishing two hooks??
Is it better to make your own and eliminate all the wire?
I appreciate your responses.

Ragfly is there a link to the tying or did you see it in person?
Thanks

Sethook, go to www.myoutdoortv.com and pull up Russ Baileys Midwest Crappie Fishing series. Derek's show is on long line trolling on Clarks Hill Lake. He demonstrates how to tie the double rig on the show.
The site isn't exactly the easiest to navigate, and If I done this right, it should save a little time trying to find it. We do something similar to it, only with 4 jigs about a foot apart each, but to me the single knot seems to break off easier if you yank too hard.Originally Posted by badbrad

On the right, scroll down to Clarks Hill trolling.
You can't fish with a hung line!

tie 1 jig on the bottom of the line and tie a dropper loop up bout 18" from that and then tie on another hook by using a palomar knot

Ronnie, as for my answer on your initial question, they will work. We started out using these 3 or 4 years ago, and they're "almost" a good idea. Like others stated, I'm kinda skeptical of the extra hardware (wire standoffs). These are put on there to keep the leader stood off away from the main line. (This is really the only feature on the rigs I'm satisfied with). Also, the snap swivel on the bottom is handy for adding/changing bell sinkers. They've worked good here in our stained/muddy water as well as the self-tied ones like in the video in my other post (that's exactly how we do ours now). On the other hand, when tying your own, you can space the hooks out like you want. Also, the hooks on these ready-made rigs are gonna need some sharpening too, because they are not sharp (by my standards anyway). I started taking these off, and making a simple little leader using E/C Laser Sharp Rotating hooks. Hope this helps....

The crappie rigs is all I use for fishing minnows. I use Mr. Crappie Tru-Turn hooks and sharpen.Originally Posted by Ronnie
