    Default TM Shaft Length

I have a bass boat and will be buying a Minn Kota trolling motor. My old Motorguide had a 42" shaft, but am considering maybe a 52"? What do you guys think and what is everyone's shaft length for a regular bass boat? Thanks guys, and Happy Holidays!

I have a 19' Stratos and I run the Max74/42" and it works great! I would say a 42" would be your best on a standard bass boat!

Default go short if you can

I have a Carolina Skiff Center Console - and I have to have the 60" shaft to ensure I get the motor deep enough in the water mainly for chopy saltwater - what I can tell you the longer the shaft the more room it takes on your deck - I know your layout is a lot different but 10" will make a bigger difference than you think - I would go with the shortest shaft that will work with your style fishing

I'd say it would depend on how intent you are on staying on the bow
when it's rough - most of the bassers I know that fish big water seriously
have went to 50" or longer. Nothing more aggravating than "blurp-blurp"
    catching air in big waves...
CK is right though, it can get in the way a little
when folded in, if that is a concern.
I'm not in a bass boat, but got my 60" out of the water a few times other
day - houseboat wakes on top of around 2' waves :D

If it were me, I would stick with the 42" shaft. However I put my boat in places that you may not want to, and the shorter shaft allows me to get into these places w/ out tearin the crap out of the t/m

I had the 60 inch shaft on mine when I got it but had to cut it down because it is mounted at almost 45 degrees on the bow and the head would stick out a foot on the outside of the port side. CF

If we have a 45" edge now, will the 42" Maxxum be fine. Not sure.

I have a 17 1/2 Bumble Bee and just put a 45" Terrova on mine. Tried it out for the first time yesterday and it seems to be the perfect overall size. It's long enough to allow for rough water, but doesn't get in the way when stowed.
