    Default Baiting a crappie hole?

Have any of you crappie addicts ever tried to bait a crappie hole with minnows? I was thinking about building a 2 foot square, wire-mesh cage and put about 4 dozen minnows in it and lowering it into the water and fishing around it.

    Think it would work?

It may work depending on where you put it. Now exactly where are you going to put it?

I've never tried this, but read it somewhere.Might work.

For nightfish, take a 1 gallon glass jar(like pickles come in) and puncture some hole in the lid.Attach a string thru 1 of the holes.Add water,a few rocks,a glow stick, and a dz. or so minnows.Suspend under boat and fish around the edges of it.

A local marina sinks green alfalfa bales in the winter, the nutrients and algae attract baitfish, which attract crappie.

    Good luck

I've also heard you can bait with cottonseed cake. I've only used it in hoop nets for catfish, but they say crappie come after it too.
Good luck with whatever you try.

Bet that mesh would be annoying if you happen to snag it if you have to fish close to it to get bit. I'd rather try the jar. I dont think i've ever snagged a glass jar before.:D

    Default bait

Ive never done the minnows, to me after a while with not being able to get at them they will move. This last year I took the carcass after being butchered of an antelope and threw it in the trash, you would not believe the maggots, tons of them. Id really go for the old trick of tying roadkill to a branch over water. I would cover it if possible to hold the moisture in or warmth depending on the time of year.
