S10CHEVY - Here in Illinois the length is measured from the tip of the snout to the end of the tail with the fish laid flat on a ruler, with the mouth of the fish closed and the tail lobes pressed together.
Does each state, have us measuring fish, the same way? Have been wondering about that for quite a while now. Here in Pennsylvania they have us pinch the tail in, till it is about as wide as the last of the body, then measuring the fish. If it does vary from state to state, then does it make for some questionable measurements? How do they do it on the fishing circuits? Am curious as to how other states have measurments taken.

That is the same, as we do. But I believe that there may be others that do it differently. Keith
Same thing in Louisiana....mouth closed, tail squeezed.

I bought a nice little plastic fish measurer at The Catfish Connection (www.catfishconnection.com) for around $3 that you just put the crappie in and if his tail hangs out, it is over 10". I haven't tried it yet but it should work well and be easy to use.
Texas is the same
