I have one on my TM and am very happy with it, would buy again. I should have said just an Eagle 480, the freshwater unit.
Needing a new depth finder, how does the eagle 480 compare to the hummingbirds. I will be using it in shallow water most of the time, 10' or less. Any thoughts appreciated, pro and cons.

Why would you want the dual freq. unit? It would save you a few dollars if you get the single freq. unit. Now for the HB units i can't say but have heard great things about the newer units.
This is true. You don't need a dual freq unless you ae fishing very deep waters like in the ocean.

I personaly like the hummingbird.Have had the eagles units before.
But have been sold on the hummingbirds. I've had the 987c love it and the 737 love it works great and love the connection. If $ was the issue I would consider the eagle.Eagle is the lower line lowrance.
If people concentrated on the REALLY important things in life....
there would be a shortage of fishing poles !
Thanks for the replies fellows. So if I'm fishing water that is at most 20 deep, probably more likely 10' which frequency would be better.

I'm like Steve J....I've run a 480 on the fornt of my boat for about 4 years now. Been real pleased with it. I would buy another.....I'm not partial to eagle, on my old jon boat I ran a Hummingbird and had good lock with it too.
for ease of use, detail and dependablity the 480 has worked well.
What IBNFSHN said. The 50khz is used mainly for deeper water and salt water. You don't need it for where you will be. 200khz is for shallower water. Save yourself some money. Don't get the dual frequency.CFOriginally Posted by IBNFSHN

When you buy a FF, it'll come with a 200khz. Where do you plan on mouting the transducer? The FishMark 480 is the equivalent to the SeaFinder, just single freq. transducer and about $50 or so cheaper.
