I'm starting to get a spider rig setup together for my boat, and I'm curious whether the mini baitcast reels work well for spider rigging (or, if they work well at all). I originally planned on putting some Abu Garcia Ambassadeur reels on all of them, but the mini reels would be a lot better for my boat budget if they work well. If I decide to try these reels I will probably go with either the BnM one or the WM version, if anyone has any experience with either.
Your best bet is probably Wal-Mart, they have a nice $19.96 abu (i believe) baitcaster that has been great for me!
Bass Pro has the Uncle Bucks mini reels on sale for less than $7.00.I have a couple of them already and just ordered some more, they are decent reels for holding line.
I have not had good luck with mini reels in general and have bought them up to about $30 and always go back to the same spinning reels I use to bass fish with. I do like the Shimano Spriex and is about as low cost as I will buy. Most that I use cost more, but that is just me. I have finally given up buying any reels that don't say Shimano on them, casting or spinning!
I bet though I have had some where about 6-8 with there being about 5 different brands of mini reels and I don't think I will ever buy another.
I use to use the mini bait casting reels but quickly got rid of them and went to spinning reels. In my opinion they set in the rod holders much better.

I skipped the mini reels and use full size baitcasters any brand as long as it has a flippin switch makes for one touch line adjustments and makes it a snap to land fish with your longer poles!

My choice would be the Mitchell 310 U/L spinning reel. It has a smooth drag that can be set very light when needed, a nice feature when landing big Crappie.
