Cant really tell the shape of the head but it looks like a CopperheadedRattleMoccasian to me.
This is a pic of a friend of my cousins. They were staying at a beach house in Galveston during the bike rally. This guy spotted the (unidenitified at the time) snake minding his own business and decided it would be cool to play with him and scare the rest of the people there with it. My cousin showed me the picture on Thanksgiving and asked me "what kind of snake is it"? I have my opinoin and would like to know what the rest of you think. I think it is totally stupid to be playing with a snake (intoxicated or not) obviously this guy has had a few. This snake is alive. He played with it for a while then did the old over the head twirling like a rope release trick.

That my friend is what we call a Copperheadedwaterrattler.
Your buddy is lucky!!! At one time Galveston island was loaded with rattlers. This sure looks like one to me.Originally Posted by Skeeterbite

I'm no snake expert but here in MS that's what I would call a rattler. The markings, the shape of it's head and the white in it's tail. Wow, was he ever lucky.
Lucky and crazy!!
