Best Way to Weigh Down Christmas Trees?

I have a week off between Christmas & New Years & am planning on collecting trees starting right after Christmas day. What is the best way to weigh these things down to sink them?

I want to make sure they go down & stay down!

I get concrete test beams from Texas Dept. of Transportation.....
Any road job has them.... and the contractor is glad for you to haul em off..
They are 6" x 6" x 22" and weigh about 55# each.....
I drill a hole through the blocks and run a nylon rope through both blocks and tie a knot... It will not pull through the hole....then tie to the bottom of the tree.....
I use trees 6' x 8' tall..... Tie a 2.5 gal plastic jug in the top to keep the tree upright at all times....
Farmers get chemicals in these jugs.... I triple rinse with a little soap & water and they are good to go.....
It takes 2 concrete blocks to do a good job of sinking the tree....
It works great for me....

How many cinder blocks would it take per tree?

A few years ago I became tired of wagging concrete blocks and scrap iron home only to have to move it again to the boat to go sink structure... (yep, some of the better ideas are the result of laziness - lol).

I drive the christmas trees to the lake and try to find a staging area on a good "gravel bank" where I can drop the trees off.

Then I put the boat in the water and take a "handful of large onion sacks" with me. Once I reach the gravel bank where I have staged the trees, I fill the onion sacks with gravel. ( a small military shovel is helpful, but an old plastic jug cut to form a scoop/bale works even better). I use the onion sacks full of gravel for weights.. It works like a charm..

You may want to put a large plastic tub in the boat to put the gravel sacks in as you are sinking the trees to keep from messing up your carpet.

Talk to the produce manager at your local grocer.. Most will be glad to save you some onion/produce sacks. The webbed material that the produce sacks are made of will last longer than the christmas tree.

If you cast jigs to the trees, you will want to sink the trees "upside down".. In other words, tie the weight to the top of the tree and a capped jug to the bottom/trunk of the tree. This will allow the casted jig to fall through the downturned branches without snagging. I also take a small chainsaw and trim the trees so that all limbs only extend 2' from the trunk..
