    Default Evinrude 9.9 intermittently hesitating.

I've got a 95 Evinrude 9.9 that I bought brand new back in 95. The motor is intermittently hesitating and I'd like to fix it now before it gets any worse. I had it in for a tune up a few years ago and remember that I had a hole in one of my gaskets which they replaced. I use it every weekend. I replaced both plugs and the fuel hose to my 6 gallon tank. I looked at the fuel filter which is nothing more than a screen which looked fine. I pulled the hose out of the gas tank and the screen on it looked fine as well. I've had this problem with the last three tank fulls. Any ideas as to what could be the cause? Any help appreciated.

First check spark and compression. Just takes a minute.

More then likely though, your carb needs cleaning. Nothing to that either.

Good luck and happy Turkey Day.

Another quick and cheap route that won't hurt is to throw some Stabil in the gas tank to clear out any moisture that might have built up or be in the gas, along with a bit of Sea Foam to flush through the carbs and maybe clear out anything in the jets. I had a problem a couple years back on a 25hp with some small stuff blocking the low speed jets, and ran some Sea Foam through in heavy doses and it cleared everything out and helped avoid a trip to the shop or a carb redo.

May want to try to tilt the motor up & then pump the fuel ball till gas runs out,may have a small peice of trash in it & sometimes that will flush it out,
If that don't work you can ask on this http://www.themarinedoctor.com/cgi-bin//YaBB.pl,

Is there a bowl on the carburetor? The needle may be sticking.

I use to have problems with my old two stroke 9.9 merc until i started using fuel stabilizer, made things alot better for several years now! I even put some in my pickup truck ever so often,i think it helps keep carb clean.

Try doing de-carb first. A 12 year old motor is bound to have a lot of carbon build up. Here are the instructions: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158076
If you still have the problem after that you will have to rebuild your carb and fuel pump. They are really very simple to do once you get them off.
