    Default Motor Beeeeep

I have a 2002 Mercury 40 hp, oil injection 2 stroke. It's been sitting for about 2 months without running. It was fine the last time I had it out.
I started it today with water ear muffs on and the continous beep was on.
I think that means it's a heat problem. The water is shooting out the peehole good and the motor is smoking out the exhaust.
When I turn the key on the first notch it beeps without the motor running. I think it must be a sensor stuck, but I'm not sure.
Can somebody give me some advice?

You are probably right about the sensor so the best advice I can think of is take the motor in and have it checked out by a marine mechanic. That is to new of a motor to have a mis-hap. Good luck with it.

Could be the alarm for "Low Oil" in the reservoir for the injection oil.

    Default Mercury Problem

YOUR OIL WARNING MODULE OR THE LOW OIL WARNING SENSOR IN THE BOTTOM OF YOUR OIL TANK IS DEFECTIVE.

SOMETIMES BOTH NEED REPLACING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IF THE OIL SENSEOR IN THE TAN IS BAD, THE TANK WILL NEED REPLACING ALSO.

I don't have a aswer for your continous beep but my mechanic told me that if you turn your key on and don't hear the beep you need get it in and checked out pronto. It means that the warning beeper is not working and you won't get warned if a heating situation developes.

That can be one of three things. None of my manuals cover your year but troubleshooting is the same. First find the temp switch on you head and unplug it (should be tan/light blue wire). If the problem goes away then replace the temp switch. If not find the 2 wires (light blue) going to your oil resevoir, unplug them and test again. If the problem goes away then the oil tank must be replaced.

This is the part I can't verify. If after testing both parts you still have the alarm then you must have an alarm module which is bad.

Note that the switch in the oil tank consists of 2 magnets and the magnets are notorious for falling off and so far no one has come up with a way of fixing them. Thats why the tank has to be replaced.

    Default Got beep to stop

I pulled the oil tank loose with oil lines still connected and took out the probe looking thing out the bottom of the oil tank, and started the motor with water muffs on and the continuos beep stopped.
    What does that mean?

Probably means the alarm is from the oil reservoir, which could be a faulty sending unit or low oil. Try filling the oil reservoir with oil and see if that stops your alarm.

    Default Beep

Ok, I took the sensor out the bottom of the oil tank, with oil lines still hooked up, tank is full of oil. I put water ear muffs on and started the motor, no beep.
Put the probe sensor back in, it beeps again. Do I replace the sensor probe or
is it the tank? Can I use the motor to go fishing with the sensor out til I can
    get one ordered.

You answered you own question. It's the probe. But if you can't buy just that one part some folks are saying you might have to buy the tank with the probe alreay in there. If you can get the probe you unhooked and then rehooked, that'll fix her.
