Side Imaging! Nothing covers a wider area as side imaging. Nothing shows a better picture either.
Which is better to have, 3d sonar or side imaging?

I don't have a SI but I use to have a 3D. The SI is far superior.

SI is much better you get great picts just like having a underwater camera except your picts cover 100 plus feet to each side and since its sonar you don't have to worry about dirty water for the most part & it works at nite too. Just love my side birdie:D

I'm just heading out fishing right now but when I get back I'm going to post some screen captures I did earlier this week on my web site that show how well structure shows up with the Humminbird side scan.

Can you explain to me what the photos are? Is it better in the amber or gray background?
3D vs side scan Depends on which images on my site your talking about. I set up imagery to be used as maps as in the one in Local Imagery on my site www.accuemap.com . The other, which I think you mean, are screen captures using the Humminbird 997. Whats nice with them is you can freeze the screen and move the cursor over some thing of interest and save a screen capture along with a way point of that spot. You can see samples of that down at the boat screen capture or the Clearwater just below that.
