That would be a blacknose crappie - i catch 'em here in Tn. all the time. I believe they are only native to Arkansas , but introduced pretty much everywhere.
Here's some nice'in's we caught this morning, the top fish had a wide black stripe that ran from its bottom lip all the way down it's back, what is that?

AWESOME slab's. WTG, looks like they will make a great fried crappie sandwich.

I don't think that the tape measure does them justice. With crappie that nice you should have a pic of you holding them. Nice catch.

Great fish. Thanks for sharing the pic with us.
I have heard from a bioligist that the crappie that has that black strip on him is called a triploid crappie.
Very nice SLABS!!! The racing stripe, as I call it, you're talking about is an Arkansas Blacknose Crappie. It's a black crappie where a recessive gene has become primary, a double recessive. Many game and fish departments raise them for stocking and studies. Of course, it's a one time shot because once they are introduced to a body of water they're there from then on. Do a Google search on "blacknose crappie" and you'll get a wealth of info. Mississippi is engineering a crappie they call a Magnolia Crappie that has the same mark and is suppose to be sterile and good for stocking in small ponds.

We call them "Mustangs" around here!
The Blacknose are more aggresive, grow quicker, and fight like Brown Fish here!!I have seen alot of them break water and do the Bass Dance!!!
