Default First time taking the kids fishing...

Back in August, we started taking our kids fishing at a pond located by our township offices.

They did very well for their first time.

They love to fish and have no problem holding them. Mostly bluegills in this pond which is just fine. They had a blast no matter what fish they catch.

Funny story, too. Second time we took them was at my in-laws cabin. Small place on a river. Fishing off his dock. My son is casting the practice weight and is reeling it back in. He gets it to the dock and starts pulling it up and a largemouth had followed it up and jumped out of the water at the rubber fish! Almost pulled the rod out of hands! I grabbed the rod and started reeling it in just as he jumped and let go. Good size fish, too, from the looks of it.

Needless to say, it was the topic of choice the whole weekend with the kids!

You know, I never want my kids to look back on these times and say things like, "I wish mom and dad would have taken me fishing" or things like that.

Even if, with our busy lives, I only get to take them out for a 1/2 hour or so I still do. It's all worth it.

    Way to go Dad!

Looks like some quality time spent away from the TV.

Mine started out that way. Now, they jockey for postion in the boat, much like a Nascar pole position race.

    That is neet!!!!
I posted my grand kids first experience a while back on the stories board. I have come to the conclusion that Popa Don can't handel two four year olds with out Mimi. Little Rock will be stocking trout in the parks ponds soon. We plan to go get some with the kids.

DrPepper, in early September my wife and I took the kids to a trout farm in mid-Michigan. They had a blast catching the trout. They each caught one and were in complete awe how much bigger they were then the bluegill.

They wouldn't eat it, but the wife and I thought it was mighty tasty!

    :D

Of course, they want to go back again.

My 4 yo is my best fishing partner. She love to get out on the water and play with the minnows. Taught her to cast a spinning rod (ul) last week, now I had to buy her one of her own.
