If both units use the same frequency transducers, you could get interference. If you are fishing off the bow, just turn you console transducer off.
I am thinking about putting a depth/fish finder in the front of my Pro Team 165. I already have one with the transducer in the rear. If I put one in the front will they interfere with each other? Its on a 16' boat. also is it worth going through the hassle and added expense of adding another finder to the front of the boat? Thanks for any info.
Edit: What about a portable one such as the Garmin 120 or the Hummingbird (forget the model #). Are they as good as the ones that are permantly mounted?

I have one on the console which has the transducer on the transom, and one in front of my boat with the transducer mounted on the trolling motor....the dash one is an Eagle, the front one is a Lowrance...I have both on always and have never had a problem.....Originally Posted by Shellback

I have a 16 footer with one front and rear. No problems. Garmin 240 and Lowrance X97. The X97 was just replaced and haven't tried out the new one yet but I've had others up there with no problems.

i have 2 also and the onley time i had interferance was from the troling motor and that was befor i put one up frunt on the troling motor i just put the power wire on the cranking battery . . i did have a side finder transducer on the troling motor and that could have caused it . if i didnt have but one it would have to be on the troling motor .
retired and now i will always fish
It is about power vs frequency vs distance between tx/rx (transducer). A more powerful transmitter will overpower the smaller usually causing the smaller unit screen to blank at or about near frequency ranges. Harmonics also come into play. Maybe I am getting too technical here. What I am saying is, if your transom mount is 400 watts rms, dont put a 1000 watt rms unit of the same frequency on the front.

I have a Lowrance X97 on the transom of 16ft Lund and Lowrance X97 on Minkota Maxxum trolling motor with universal sonar. I run them both at the same time with no problems.
