I love the idea of the depth stop button on this reel, but has anyone used one before? If it works.....I'm getting one or two right away. I think being able to put the bait right back on their nose would increase catches.

I agree with you 100%, and if this thing works...it is a FANTASTIC idea!!!

My fishing partner and I often discuss this very topic...how much line and what depth do we feel we are running.....etc.....
I won't be at work........I'm feelin' crappie today!

Exclamation I used to have ....

the "spincast" version of a "depth finder" reel ...(two of them, actually) and they worked fine (well, they did until a Hybrid Striper jerked one overboard ... and the other got hung up and dragged overboard, while I was busy fighting the wind and trying to maintain boat position) .... LOL!! And, no ... I didn't have rod holders, in either case.
They are Zebco's ... so, keep them cleaned and maintained - and they should last a while. Set the drag just a "frog hair" lighter than normal, and you shouldn't have any trouble with breakoffs, or line breakage on the hookset.
I don't know how the spinning version (as pictured) "holds" the line where you set it .... but the spincast ones had a lever on top, that pushed a pin across the line spool to stop the line. That extra "pressure" , or presence of another "retainer", would add to the drag setting ... about equal to a 1/4 turn of the drag knob. And, on light lines, that can be just a "tad" too much. .......luck2ya .............cp

I've got a couple now. I've used one while icefishing for crappies. Works damn good too. Theres a pair of pins on the reel body that you push up to set the depth. You can use one or both at the same time. I use one. Heres how i use mine. I always set it 2 reel turns deeper than the fish. I reel up to the depth and fish it there. I do this because if i get a big fish and have to give line, i dont lose my spot by letting the drag go past the setting. Haven't caught anything yet that took a lot of drag out. Haven't had a chance to use them slow trolling yet. Looking forward to giving them a more thorough testing this open water season. Its light and i like the feel of them.
