    Default "Out Fish'in"

    This poem was written by the father of my dad's neighbor in South Texas. There may be a million reasons why folks go fishing, but I think this man found the golden nugget and was able to pen it down...

    OUT FISH’IN

    A feller isn’t think’in mean,
    Out Fish’in
    His thoughts are mostly good an’ clean,
    Out Fish’in
    He doesn’t knock his fellow men,
    Or harbor any grudges then;
    A feller’s at his finest when
    Out Fish’in

    The riches are comrades to the poor,
    Out Fish’in
    All brothers of a common lure,
    Out Fish’in
    The urchin with the pin an’ string,
    Can chum with millionaire and king;
    Vain pride is a forgotten thing
    Out Fish’in

    A feller gits a chance to dream,
    Out Fish’in
    He learns the beauties of a stream,
    Out Fish’in
    An’ he can wash his soul in air,
    That isn’t fouls with selfish care;
    An’ relish plain and simple fair,
    Out Fish’in

    A feller has no time for hate,
    Out Fish’in
    He isn’t eager to be great,
    Out Fish’in
    He isn’t thinking thoughts of self,
    Or goods stacked high upon a shelf;
    But he is always just himself,
    Out Fish’in

    A feller’s glad to be a friend,
    Out Fish’in
    A help’in hand he’ll always lend,
    Out Fish’in
    The brotherhood of rod an’ line,
    An’ sky and stream is always fine;
    Men come real close to God’s design,
    Out Fish’in
    A feller isn’t plotting schemes,
    Out Fish’in
    He’s only busy with his dreams,
    Out Fish’in
    His livery is a coat of tan,
    His creed – to do the best he can;
    A feller’s always mostly man
    Out Fish’in
