Most of the ones I've seen are made of heavier mono than I'd want for crappie fishing... Otherwise I'd use them to cut down on re-tying time.
A person could tie their own...if their finger dexterity was better than mine!
Tie your own! I use vanish 10lb for crappie and gills. It helps to get the bait down a little quicker. I make several dozen at a time, and modify them for different reasons. I prefer long shank hooks, the ones with the bend are my choice, they seem to hook and hold a lot better, and areeasier to reform after a snag. I use part of one of those swiming pool noodles tostore them, just set the hook into the styrofoam, and use half a paper clip to hold them in place. Even tie some C/R leaders that way.
I think they would be good for bottom bouncing
It's a very secure connection, stronger than just about any knot. When you snell a hook, you're making the line part of the hook shank so you get a very solid and direct hook set. Saltwater guys do it a lot, as do the Europeans.
It's not actually that hard to tie a snell knot. I started using snell knots about a year ago and its about all I use now when bait fishing. It is a lot harder with tiny hooks though.
