    Default Shore Fishing

I am forced to fish from the shore as I have no boat. Thats ok, I actually prefer the shore I think. However, what kind of rod in terms of length should I get so that I can get a jig and bobber out as far as possible? I have a 4'6" and 6' BPS microlites. I was thinking about the 7'6" one they sell but wonder if I need something even longer to really get into deeper water? What does everyone think? Thanks.

I like to occasionally fish from shore, usually using a minnow and float and my favorite rods for this are 7 and 8 ft long.

I fish from shore almost exclusively, and I use 12-14' rods. They cast farther than short rods and are excellent for controlling fish. You can also use a fixed float set 10-12' deep.

Bass Pro has an 8'6" float n' fly rod in their Microlite range. That's as short as I'd go for float fishing, and I much prefer the longer ones.

I primarily fish from shore myself and have used a 5' ultralight almost exclusively to work this one section of my favorite lake by an old bridge. This year I just bought a 9' ultralight rod and I'm gonna give that a go. Hopefully get more distance, reach those further sports along the bridge. I'll post my findings once crappie season begins here in PA.

I've never really tried a long rod (>8') for shore line fishing. Mainly because of the terrain I'm fishing in. Most ponds around here are brush and tree covered, requiring a somewhat short rod. Although I'm frequently fishing with a 7' Sam's SS by B n' M. If you have plenty of overhead room, I'd go for a long as I could use.
