Thanks for the heads up. Does the 997 do that too?
When in the simulator mode and the recording comes to and end, the 797 pauses. At this time when you hit the menu button ( to end pause or whatever), the unit locks up. It does it every time. You have to remove power from the unit to restart the unit. The power button doesn't do a thing. The processor ain't reading the power button. It is in a never never land, an endless loop with no escape except shut down! This should not happen. Period.
Been playing with the unit while yaking here.
Condition: Power only. No xducer attatched. Shouldn't matter. I am just lookin' at pictures.

That sure sucks. Maybe the HB guys will come up with a fix for you. That's a lot of Jack to cough up for a unit that locks up. You need to find a way to get that side imaging working with your laptop. That would be the way to go.
Mine did this once also and scared me. I think I pushed the button to hard and it was stuck. I freed it up with out repowering the unit.
Mine acts totally crazy in simulator - sometimes it will run for an hour,
sometimes it will lock up in the first few seconds over and over.
I first thought it was because I was too button-happy, but it locked up
last night after I hadn't touched it for five minutes. I was sitting there
studying stuff on a Navionics card. (But it did this before I had a card in
it also). Thank goodness it doesn't do this on the water, or I'd be having
a fit.

How are you running it in the house?
I would love to study my 987 like that. Or just look at the maps while sitting here.

I don't know about the 987 Pete, but I ordered a power cable for the 797 from Humminbird. I just hook it up to a 12 volt source (Phihong 12 volt switching power supply). All functions work except when I try to playback recordings. When recording pauses, it locks up.Originally Posted by ShilohRed
Never have any trouble on the water, but I never have reviewed a recording on the water either. Too busy catching...haha
I do like this record function. It allows you to go back and mark spots after the fact. It is pretty accurate too. I am just tolerating the lockup. The data is good.
This stuff reminds me of when I worked on the Hummingbirds. All three crashed and burned. Killed a couple of pilots. Never did figure why the controls kept locking up. This was in 1966-1967 I think. Hummingbird was a VTOL. Fly by wire ain't nothing new. This Hummingbird had it. I have worked on some interesting stuff in my brief lifetime.

I wish I could share some of the stuff I recorded. Want let me. I can't take a snapshot of a recording. ha

Thanks Tom I have an extra power cable. So I guess I will start doing what your doing. That sounds like the way to do it.
