What is the easy method for removing paint from jig head eye?

I use a jig eye buster. I like to do it before it is too hard. Just be careful not to touch the jig head and ruin coat on the head. If its to hard I just use a jig eye buster and just chip all the the paint off the eye.

Sometimes I use a tooth pick right after I dip it and if there is paint in the eye after baking it's easy to heat the bodkin with a lighter and stick it right through. it will melt the paint right out of the eye.

I'll dip the jighead, then push the bodkin through the eye if it's full. Then wait a few seconds and you can break off what gets pushed out to the other side just by touching it once its dry. If it's already baked, I do like Skip does. It's too hard to try to get it out otherwise.

With powder paint, remove the paint in the eye before you cure the paint. It will be much easier. I use a dremel and it makes quick work of the paint. When the paint is cured, most of the time the eye stays clear. With powder paint, the more you use it, the better you will be and not getting paint in the eyes. A big help with that is using a fluid bed. Good Luck, Pop

I agree with Skip. It is easier to correct the problem before the paint sets up. No customer or fisherman/fisherwoman wants to spend time on the bank busting jig eyes when they could be fishing.

Having said all that, I still carry a battery operated Mister Twister drill in my tacklebox and on my workbench. It drills right through them in about two seconds.

Do you have to cure the jig heads the same day that you paint them or can you paint them today and cure tomorrow?

As far as I know, you could cure them a year from now. Pop
