    Default Rooster Tail from transponder?

i have the humminbird 757c on my 18.5ft crestliner sportfish and had it installed (still something about drilling holes in a board that i dont like ) by the dealer that we bought the boat from.

anyways, the transponder looks like it is installed correctly (judged by me and referencing the humminbird manual), at the correct height and placement, however it shoots a rooster tail up like to other, with the water landing directly on my motor.

merc has told me that the water hitting the motor isnt a problem, as it is sealed, however i still dont like a 10ft+ rooster tail always coming off the back of my boat.

any suggestions as to what may be wrong? mounted too high, too low? too close to the motor?

    Thanks

*EDIT i have the quad band transponder!

    Default tail

the rooster tail is caused by water is going thru the space between the ducer top hinge housing and the bracket (Metal on mine)that is screwed into boat. Suggestions are to wrap some tape over this space to block water flow, also a few 997 users with same problem made a small shield to fit a inch or so over transducer to block water, note this small shield needs to be a inch or 2 higher than ducer to allow it to still kick up if hitting stump etc.
In other words if U look over back of boat at ducer u will see this space between bracket and ducer. Hope I explained it kinda clear.

    clear as mud!

just kidding, i know exactly what you are talking about. a little confused on the wrapping the tape over the area-can you explain a little more?

does this happen sometimes across the spectrum of boats? i'm thinking that because the crestliner is a 'deep v' (thats what they tell me) has something to do with the water coming over more easily.

Just take some of that black electric tape & wrap it over the hole just don't put so much on that it could somehow block ducer from swinging up if you kiss a stump.

Sorry no pix of shield as it was on somebody elses boat where I saw it. But just imagine if one took a 4by 6 inch pc of metal put a 80 or 90 degree bend in it across the 4 inch length like a angle iron one side is now 2 x 4 inches with 2 holes to screw to boat a inch or so above transducer the 4 x 4 section sticks out over ducer blocking rooster pee.............I aam sure U can make a fancey one with a little thought

Mine does the same thing on my fiberglass boat. I will have to try the tape trick!

What about filling it from the bottom with silicone?

What ever U do make sure U do not block or stop, ducer ability to swing UP should a stump hit U. That whole Ducer attachment has to be able to move or kiss $200.oo by-by
