    Default Changing motor

Has anybody ever taken the motor off of a Motorguide trolling motor, aluminum shaft. Is that thing just threaded into the top of the motor? Thanks, Jim.

Just curious, why are you removing the shaft from the motor?

The motor thats on there has been a good one but is beginning to show its age. Getting noisy. Otherwise the unit is usable. I want to just go get a new Minn Kota and could do that but my first born is starting college in less than a year, and thats just got me tightened up. Fortunately he has my brains and his mom's good looks but the scholorship/grant dollars aren't in the bank yet. The ACT score and the grades are there though. Jim.

You do not need to take the motor off the shaft to get into it to replace brushes and bushings.

the unit I am looking at is complete to that fitting. A little larger on the ft/lbs as well. Seemed like the easiest way, clue me into a better plan if there is one. Thanks, Jim.

My motorguide 30# comes all apart, found out the hard way when it picked up a lot of fishing line while in the grass, the line wrapped around the shaft and pulled armature out to the point it knocked parts off the pc board inside, remounted everything and have 2 more years out of it so far. Am impressed at how well it is put together. Take off the prop anf plastic cover, should be two long bolts that hold it together. good luck.--shu

Thanks for all the info. I have had the back of the motor off before searching for the noisy-ness. Decided it was bearing surfaces. Better motor is cheaper than replacement parts, gets me a couple years out, more power. Thanks for all the info. Jim.
