    Default artificial or live bait

Which do you prefer? I feel better about live but think that better crappie fisherman use artificial

I always use my hair jigs for crappies.
They out fish most of the other artificials out there.
Reason being is the sise for the most part.

Artificial by far! It gives you a multitude of colors and sizes that live baits can't. JMO.

I like live bait but have been turned on to casting a black and chatrruse curl tail on a 1/16 oz jig head. I have had some success adn would have to say both.

    Wink Been using both ...

since back in the 1960's (if not earlier :D ). Am fully equipped to fish either or both, depending on choice or circumstance. (thank you, Bait Monkey :p )

As to "preferrence" ... artificial, hands down. But, again, I go by the current circumstances ... or preferences of the fish.
Hey ... if someone is catching them on live, and I'm not catching them on artificial ... I get "like'em" :D

    ... cp

I always use jigs for crappie, generally marabou & chenille but sometimes plastic. Jigs:

    1) are cheap,

    2) appeal to all species,

    3) can be fished at any depth,

    4) and are much less trouble than minnows.

I'm a minnow man 95% of the time. Even on those days where I tell myself I am only going to use jigs, I usually pick up some minnows on the way just in case!! One of these days im going to pass the minnow store and force myself to just use jigs and gather some confidence using them. Like probably most of us on here...i have about 3 yrs worth of jig items, they look so pretty at the store!!!, I just need to start using them!!

What I like to do is throw one line out with minnows under a slip bobber in the thick of things, then cast a jig around it with a crappie niblet on it. Seems to work good for me. There was seldom a day that we didn't clean over 100 fish on our crappie trips this past spring...all 10+ inches. And that isn't just a fishing story.

I use both live and jigs. depends on the mood I guess, If I wanna kick back and relax I let the minnows do all the work but if I wanna fish more aggressive I use jigs. During the spawn I use nothing but jigs, any color will work as long as it's got chartruese with it here.
