Using all the above suggestions also be checking your graph to locate the bait fish or shad pods. On my graph I look for shad clouds that don't appear as individual fish. The graph might be showing a cloud from 40 ft up to 20 ft or off the bottom appearing from 30ft to 15 ft depths. I find them in the channels, on the edges and flats. Once I locate the shad I will be hanging jigs at that depth and below and slowly trolling to try and keep the shad clouds in close proximity to where I'm fishing.
My rigging is usually using braid (Power Pro 30#) with two 1/4 oz jigs and tightlining and crappie nibbles. Get hung up just straighten the hook out and rebend it.
If I can't find the large shad pods then I just have to jig where I am seeing individual fish marks on the graph.
Last of all see where the other fishermen are at and if they pulling fish in--just don't go up and tie onto their boat cleats and start fishing :D because they would look a you like this
good fishing
