Jesse's 1st time on the boat.
Monday, October 1st, 2007
Fished from 9:30am - 2:00pm.
Started out in low 50's with highs of low 70's, glad to have the cooler weather back.
Foggy start to the morning on the lake at 8:45am, but wasn't headed there.
Driving to the river, Yay.
I was set to take a buddy from work, his 1st time out in a bass boat. He saw it in the back yard the last time at the house when I took him on a storm morning and wrestled with a 32" northern on my 6# trout rod and fried my cell phone when I fell in the creek and chased it down. He was floored by the whole seen, which happened to be the best thing he was a part of.
So lets just say here was our 1st double of the day and what fun it was.
Here is a big gill I got on the early morning color.
Here is Jesse's fine crappie.
Jesse with a decant perch.
The biggest smallie of the day by yours truly.
Here was a nice size Redbreast Sunfish for the area.
And Jesse with another decent gill.
I lost a nice 13"ish crappie, I should have used the net, but tried to pull him up, oh well, it was fun. Also caught a decent chain pickerel. Yep, broke my line as I was pulling him up in the boat, fish landed on the deck, and it was a luck pull, tuck, flop, swim away, re-tie, and do it again.
I asked Jesse, "How many fish to you think you caught?" He said, "At least 25, I lost track after 12." And Jesse, "How many did I catch?" "At least double if not more."
It was a great day, nothing real big, but not stop action in spots. The fish were schooled up in place in the backwaters and on the main river. Fast drop off banks with trees, sand, light weeds, over 7'-12' FOW on the main river and in 3'-5' FOW in the backwaters. 1/16 oz minnow jig heads with 2" rub grubs, again. The gills were hitting them on the dead drop over 10' before it would hit bottom and on the reel.
