Default Looking for a lake for a fishing trip in May within 250 miles from Buffalo.

We are looking to rent a cabin and some fishing boats/8 hp motors and will drive around 300 miles any direction from Buffalo, NY

Introducing an 8, 10 year old boy to lake fishing. Second fishing trip for 13 year old boy and 11 year old girl.

We tried Chautaugua Lake in May of 2006 and it was beautiful but not knowing the lake well, we did pretty poorly fishing. I know the ole timers there do well with walleye and such in the morning and evenings during the week when all the recreationals are absent.

We enjoyed Black Lake, NY by the St. Lawerence but the cabins are booked for last weekend in May. Fishing there is good for sunny's and bluegills, bass after June 15, and pike. Walleye are supposed to be making a come back.

What I want is action for the kids. Someone said Seneca Lake,NY. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks.

    Hello Calico Lake,
I know that I am a very long way from where you live but I just had to comment on your request. I know fishing is great but it is the best when you carry a kid fishing. You deserve a big pat on the back for spending quality time with your kids. If you are ever down in the south Georgia area I will be glad to carry you out on a crappie fishing trip that I know the kids would enjoy. GOD bless you.

I really wished I could help you with a good lake in the northeast. However, if you change your mind and decide to travel a little further south, May is usually pretty good spawn and post-spawn fishing in Arkansas. Bring them kids to me and I'll gett'em snatching'em up in short order. Good luck on your search.

Holy smokes man you don't need to travel. Your sittin on a fishing mecca right where your at. Erie, Ontario, upper and lower Niagara, lakes and streams all over. Ellicott creek in Alden I've heard has real good crappies in it. Head out there and find a local tackle shop and ask them where you can find fish in the creek. Give the owner of anglers choice taxidermy a call. Hes a great guy and really knows the local fishing. Plus hes a fantastic fish taxidermist. Go to the NY forum and ask where to fish around buffalo. I live at Chautauqua lake and next time you come down here let me know and I'll put you on some fish whether it be from shore or boat. There is Alleghany rez and state park with fishing all over. All the tribs coming out of Ontario are nearly always fishable and right now they should be right in the middle of the salmon and trout run for fall. Go there and you'll find tackle shops fisherman and fish all over the place. I'm just skimmin the surface here, there is bookoo fishing just about everywhere up there for nearly every species in the freshwater book.
