Default Gill nets, far worse than discarded fishing line

    Hi guys,

I read this thread from a week ago about discarded fishing line. I though you guys might like the video footage of gill nets along the eastern shore of North Carolina. A couple of guides there have begun videotaping gill nets full of fish..where the tide goes out and a net full of redfish and black drum sit to rot. Another guide videos gill nets run end to end covering coves and in shallow water leaving the fish with little places to roam.

I read the discarded fishing line thread and thought you guys would like to see what's left when a gill net is put out..and left unattended. See this link.

I can tell you removing the netting on our Texas coast has made a huge difference. It's bee a pretty long time back that they ended the nets, like back in the 80's sometime, but as soon as they did the reds made a big come back and the trout of course did too.

It's made our coastal bays great fishing.

Are nets legal in North Carolina? What a joke they have banned around here for years! these lazy fisherman ruin it for all of us and our future fisherman.

Gill nets are the scourge of our lakes. Legal is not in a gill netter's vocabulary. I'll report every one I see and cut every one I come in contact with. Keep a eye out while enroute to the lake, some of these jokers have their nets strung out at their house. Appeal to your Congressman every chance you get.
