    Default B' n' M rod/braided line

    Hi,

It is ok to use power pro braided line with a b'n'm rod?....I have some on my micro reel.....Also, what is the best way to tie a jig on with braided line?....Is it better to use like a swivel and make a leader with mono line?....

I use braided line on my b'n'm rods practically all the time. The major problem is with the line wrapping around the rod tip. I tie jigs directly to the braid just as I would with mono using either or a palomar knot or a surgeons loop knot.

On hang ups don't try to horse the jig loose by flexing the rod but point the rod at the hang up and pull on the line with a gloved hand to keep from getting cut by the line. If the hang up is closer than the length of the rod I will pull the line tight as a guide line and push the rod tip down the line and poke the jig loose.

    Hi Lbm,

You haven't had problems with the line wearing down the eyes?....I am pretty much going to use it to vertical jig fish bamboo beds..

I've heard that about braided line since they came out but have never experienced it on my own or known anyone that has had the problem. If some of the others here have experienced that problem they will share that info.

I mainly just vertical jig or flip/pitch using the braid on longer rods. If I'm doing any casting I'll use shorter rods with mono just so I don't hear the line zinging through the eyes.

    Default Good guides

I feel the idea that braided line cuts the guides is more familiar to bass fishing with older equipment.
I have never had that problem with ANY of the approx. 30 different panfish rods I have from varoius makers.
I have tested the tip eyes on a few by swirling cotton in the tip in case I couldn't see the possible damage, but no problem.
High use for heavy fish on older type tip guide might be different. Mike

The only prob I have ever had with braid cutting eyes was on a cheap bass rod while horsing BIG crankbaits all day. I use Fireline on my jig poles, never had a prob.

    Wink Cheap guide eyes ...

are the biggest problem, as far as braids (and even mono) cutting into them.

Ceramic guides won't cut, when using braid, and they don't "sing" ... like metal guides do. Metal guides won't cut, either, unless they're just really cheap. The "braids will cut grooves in your rod guides" problem, was from the previous generation of braids. They were made with Kevlar strands, and could be very abrasive to all but the highest grade of guides. This generation of braids are high modulus polyethylene (Spectra) ... as is PowerPro. Fireline is not a braid, it's a "thermal filament line" ... made from Micro Dyneema. Neither one should cause any grooving or damage to rod guides.

Hanging your hook or jighead into the guide eye (when storing or not using the rod), is probably reason #1 for a lot of line breaks/nicks/frays ... do yourself a favor, and DON'T DO IT. Hang your hook/jig on the guide foot/brace, reel, or hook holder ring (if your rod has one) .... NOT thru the line guide !! The barb of your hook only has to make a slight nick/scratch in the interior portion of the guide eye, and that guide can become a line destroyer. Many times, these barb nicks/scratches have been mistaken for braid use damage.

Take your bnm pole with braid on it, pull all the line out tight, cut the braid of throw it away and put on some 6lb vanish. worked for me.
