The selection of colors is a problem at Wally world. Part of the fun is creating a color that no one else has. I know that you can catch fish on the NORMAL colors but when that is all the fish have seen it is nice to be able to tie on something different.

Thanks to advice from Skiptomylou and others, I have improved my jig tying skills tremendously. I went to Kentucky over the Labor Day holiday to try out the Chenille jigs and the Clouser jigs. Just caught 25 crappie on the new jigs I tied last week.It was much more rewarding than pulling some run-of-the-mill jig out of a wrapper and getting it wet.

After work I tie about five a night, usually on a small fly tying station I built that is on a TV tray in front of the TV. If the weather is nice, I tie on the picnic table on the back porch. I keep the mess to a minimum. I truly enjoy it.

I have to spend time with "Da Wife" If I have a big order I'll do 30 a night. I can do 100 on the weekends especially if it's raining. Otherwise it's just therapy. 15 minutes and then back to the "Honey Do" list or preparing and wearing all the other hats I have.

Its nice to be able to tie your own jigs and customize them as you like. My best color this year isnt a color made in the type of jig I use. Also I control the amount of marabou which is nice. Good luck with your jigs and good tying!

I like getting special colors of variegated or otherwise that none of the suppliers carry. I have one in mind right now for the next time I order.

That is the beauty and fun of fly tying. You create your own masterpiece with a Crappie in mind. The jigs you make for yourself are superior to any store bought jig. I have started to use Barlow's or Jann's Netcraft for my supplies along with the local craft store.

The greatest thrill is tricking a fish on a minnow imitation you created. Here is a real quick fly that anyone can tie. Takes about a minute.

Tie the marabou tail. Then wrap the start of the chenille. Bring the thread up to the head and wrap the chenille.

I like that type jig to be used with minnows or a small piece of worm and fish it by dragging along bottom casting ,drifting, or super slow trolling. Lime green mixed with yellow chartreuse is absolutely deadly. Use Fluorescent Chenille Tying Material from Barlow’s tackle shop in Texas. For the majority of your jig tying I would suggest size 2 which is often classified as medium. You probably want to order either some of the strung marabou pin feathers to make your tails.
