Today I drove down to Arkabutla Lake, Ms. on my 797 simulator (sitting in the house and not in the boat). I scouted out the lake using the simulator mode. Also went to Maptech mapserver and compared the two maps. I am impressed with the Navionics details on the map.

I also compared the two maps to the one I downloaded and calibrated for use with my laptop. They all pretty much the same, but my calibrated map needs recalibrated once I get down to Arkabutla. It is off about 50 feet. I calibrated the map using the Maptech map grid. Not too bad for something downloaded off the internet for free. I can recalibrate the download map once I determine two accurate waypoints at the lake.

Why bother? It is easy to manipulate the map features with the laptop. Things such as tracks, waypoints, etc. This is too awkward with 797. This is just a hobby for me.
