I dont like the auto pilots either. Maybe out in open water fishin deep all the time they would work. But Fishin for Crappie dont do it. They are so loud when turning. and stopping
Go to Rogers they always have great prices on them... Lee
I bought a new p/d minn 70 lbs this year at smithville marine, did a lot of price checking and the best deal was there, works very well
I would go with a Terrova with the fore aft steering. I used to alway accidentally step on that CON switch when landin' a fish and drive right over where I was catchin' 'em. But if money is an issue the V2 should work fine.
Autopilot is the best if most of your fishing is trolling.
Good thing the MINN's are a lot fast at turning than they used to be.

Aren't you glad that you asked?

I have a Minkota with auto-pilot and also add a co-pilot to it. If your working tight cover just keep the auto pilot turned off. I use mine for working banks and breaks when im casting. It's the same as there is no one perfect boat to do every thing you just pick the one that most fits your needs and adapte to the rest the best you can.
I've been running AP for several years. Both my current boat and previous boat have AP. I really appreciate this feature, for typical trolling and hovering over beds. Under certain conditions, I tie the stern off and use the AP to hold position over the bed. Once you use it, you will come to appreciate it. What amount of thrust are you considering?
