how do you heat them so that the stirrer doesn't melt?

I heat them first with a heat gun. Then apply the stirrer. I hold the barrel swivel with forceps to try and keep the direct heat off it. Once in a while I melt a straw. I have a friend that wraps the barrel swivel in tin foil.

I guess that is why Roadrunner heads paint is brittle and seems to not be baked on after to cure. It's eash to use a eye buster on them to get any paint out of the eye.

Have never tried painting 1 of those, but when you do paint it with powder paint, make sure you bake it at 350 for 15 minutes, per the directions on the powder paint bottle, and you wont have to worry about the paint chipping.
Do this with the jigs i paint, and it dont come off.
    Hope this helps.
