    Default Powder Painting Questions

Ok, so I can paint them evenly and everything, but I was using a grill lighter to heat the jig heads. That ran out of juice, so I used a candle. It would char the lead and the paint wouldn't stick evenly to it. I stopped for the night, but I was wondering what kind of candles people use, or of other ways to heat the jig heads? Also, to cure the paint at 350 for 15 minutes or whatever, a toaster oven will work fine, right? Thanks for any help.

I don't really care for the powder paint but when I was using it I just heated with a propane torch, dipped into the powder, wait a second or two, and a quick pass through the torch heat to set or cure and it was done. Quick, clean, and simple. The reason I don't use it anymore is cause of the poor color choices. Just my opinion though.

Try a small butane torch. Works great!

    Smooth Lures,

Jann's Netcraft has a small "Pencil Torch" for about $8.00. Heat the jig for about 2 seconds on low flame, dip and dry.

    This works great.

    I use this...

It's good for me and the fuel is cheap and clean. You probably can find one for less money though and this one is nothing special. Personally I don't like lighters or torches at all.

I use a regular lighter. You can use a candle you just have to put it in the blue part of the flame. The yellow part will char it.

I use a single burner Coleman stove (fits on top of the propane bottle). It works great. Then bake them in a toaster oven.

I recently learned a new trick. Use hemostats to hold the heads. Clamp it on the eye to prevent coating from filling the eye. Espsecially if you plan to cure them in an oven. Once you cure that stuff it is more than hard to get it out.
