How We Tie A Loop Knot In Arkansas! (Pics)

I've had several people ask how I tie my loop knots so I'll try to demonstrate. There is probably several different ways to tie one but here's how we do it in Arkansas.
Step 1. Pass about a foot of line thru the jig eye.



Step 2. Holding both lines about 7 to 8 inches from the jig, wrap the line and jig around all four fingers of that hand.



Step 3. Now pass the jig under the lines twice on the back side of your fingers.



Step 4. Now pinch the eye of the jig and the loop itself as close to the jig eye as possible with your thumb and index finger.



Step 5. This is a very important step and one that we always do here in Arkansas and that is to completely wet our line before we pull our knot tight!



The Finished Product! When the knot comes out between your thumb and finger determines the size loop that you end up with.

Nice demo slabbandit. What's the pro's and con's of a knot like that?

I think it keeps the jig in a more natural looking position and you don't have to reposition the knot all the time like you do when you tie directly tight to the jig eye. Probably not as strong of a knot as a palomar knot or something like that but I jig with at least 8 lb. and sometimes 10 lb. test line.

I have found it easier to retrieve hung jigs when using that knot.

I got the knot down pat. Now, what kind of line are you using. I don't think I've ever seen yellow fishing line.

Good post slabbandit. Yes that is the surgons loop.

In order to end up with a smaller loop I will use the jig eye to hold the big loop as I am closing the knot and just before it tightens up around the hook eye I slip the loop off the hook eye and tighten it up. If I don't get the loop off over the jig eye before the knot tightens it won't be a loop knot so I will have to clip and retie.

I'll use this for both jigs when using tandem jig or sometimes tie the bottem jig using a palomar knot. I sometimes feel like the fish prefer the loosly hanging jigs over ones tied with a palomar knot.

For me the knot works well with either mono or braid.
