Hey Smitty,
At 60 mph you move 1 mile per min
At 60 mph you move 88 feet per second
You are getting 1 echo return every 2.2 feet you move. (88 divided by 40)
Will your boat run 60? I would say your are safe to go this speed.

thanks I'll never out run it then.
Ok I get that...now one more. What I want to figure is does the display keep up with the entire, unbroken bottom.
It just doesn't look like I am getting every contour. It never goes blank is a perfect working 565. I think it is just me.

The other thing I wonder about is chart speed. How do you know if the chart speed is keeping up with how fast you are going, as it doesn't speed up when you do.....
Might be stupid, but I'm wondering.
I am not an expert on sonar, but several things come into play here.Originally Posted by pstone
1. depth of the water
2. viscosity of the water
3. unit ping rate and also pulse width of ping
4. transmit/receive frequency
5. transmit power of the unit
6 quality of the unit.
I am sure there are other factors, but these are the key players. Usually a newer cheap unit will work up to about 70 MPH. This is what I have read and have been told these facts by the experts.
