    Default crappie rig

Besides minnows and worms what can you hook on the end of a crappie rig that will attract the fish in?

if you're looking for more "live" alternatives :

    Shad
    Meal Worms
    Wax Worms
    Spikes
    Brook Silversides

    On the "artificial" side :

    tubes (solid or hollow)
    grubs
    flies
    jigs (hair/marabou/feathers/other materials)
    Roadrunners (other similar versions)
    Beetlespins
    Roostertails (other in-line spinners)
    mini spinnerbaits
    crankbaits
    plastic "creature" baits
Whirly Bee/Charlie Bee (and other "tail spinner" versions)

The secret is learning about the fish ... their habits, habitats, seasonal movements, depth/temp preferences/ranges, cover/structure preferences, and how they relate to all these ... on the waters you fish. Then put a bait on, that you can present to them, in such a way that it appears to be an easy (catchable) meal ... and one where you can put it in front of them, and slightly above them, and get it back without constantly hanging it into the cover you're fishing (so you can constantly/continuously present it to other members of the school).

hate to barge in on your thread, but does anyone know where I can find those "pre-rigged" crappie rigs? I think they were made by eagle claw..
weight on the bottom w/ two suspended hooks above.
I think someone said wally world, but I've yet to find them

    you looking for these :

    http://www.fishusa.com/tackleshop/ca...3C8571955&fx=1

I found mine at WM ... but it's got #2 gold "tru turn" style hooks on it. These pkg rigs don't come with any weights ... just the hook/leader/spreader bar components. And they are Eagle Claw brand. (this is the one I have : http://catalog.catfishconnection.com...mnumber=015-02 )

I actually purchased mine with the intention of cutting off the hooks (and maybe even the heavy mono leader) and using the other "hardware" to rig up a "two jig" trolling setup :D Just something to play around with since I'm not normally a "minner dragger" (unless artificials fail me). I haven't gotten around to it, yet, though. Just one of those hair brained schemes that popped into my head :p

Wally Worlds carry them ... but, like other fishing tackle they carry, you see them on one visit, can't find them the next. The prices on the above websites are pretty much the same as they sell for in Wally's ... you just might have to figure cost of gas vs S/H charges, to tell whether or not it's cheaper to keep checking at Wally World or ordering online.

Hey, you must like bass fishing by your name. I have a B.S. degree in this field. You must like to largemouth the best.

used to be big on bass
For the better part of my fishing life, until I got turned on to crappie fishing.
    Just learning it.

And I'm always pretty observant on scientific names b/c I majored in environmental biology while in college. My last semester I worked in the ichthyology lab helping doing morphometric work on Silversides.
