    Thumbs up Thanks prchjerker

One of our members here, he really helped me out with a good deal on
a new 8 horse kicker motor. Got the break in time behind me now, and
trolled with it about 5 hours Sunday, and I'm loving it :D
To early to say for sure, but seems like I'm catching more fish closer
to the boat now than when I was trolling with my 90 - it IS a lot quieter.
    I'm running about 1.7 mph and putt-putting along about 1500 rpm -
and not having to run a trolling plate or pull bags anymore Anyway,
just wanted to let you know how it's doing, and thank you again, Jeff

J, have you ever used downriggers while trolling for crappie. Friend of mine has a pair that he no longer uses and I can get them at a good price. Probably use them mostly for hybrids, but thought I might could extend the use of them trying for crappie. Never used them before though and don't know much about them.

Well... I have never got to use one, or even seen them except in catalogs -
but I believe when the fish are suspended like they have been lately at
Pickwick, downriggers would be great. What interest me, the advantage
I see, is that you could use light tackle, like an ultralight rig, and it would
be fun to play the fish. I can get down to and catch them several
different ways now, but it involves either a big hunk o' lead, or long-lining
crankbaits, which for me means heavier tackle. I haven't had good
experiences using crankbaits on light line or rods, ruins my day to lose one
of my babies to a catfish or snag :D

    Talking Downriggers

Don`t leave home without them!! Perfect for crappie, put the smallest bait (Cordell super spot) at the EXACT depth. Caught hundreds on downriggers. You will love them, easy to use, dependable. I will help you if I can. possum1

possum1, Friend is taking me out Monday to show me how to use them. I'll probably be purchasing some. Just an idea I had.....rather than permanently mounting the bases in the boat, could you mount them on a board that runs the width of the boat and is held down by a large bolt screwed into the back seat base? Maybe there is an easier way, but just the first thing to cross my mind.

Badbrad, Yes I see them that way all the time, Cabelas, Bass Pro and others sell nice aluminum bars that go all the way across the boat but they are EXPENSIVE. Mine are mounted on the sides(I striper fish a lot). Your buddy will show you how to use them, but if I can help with a few tips let me know. You are about to use one of the single best tools for crappie trolling ever invented. possum1
