Default crappie caught on spinner bait

I was fishing with a friend for bass at a local lake and caught this humble little fish.

It'll happen! They catch huge crappie here during bass tournaments all the time.

Yep, works both ways - catch bass while fishing for crappie and crappie while fishing for bass. First crappies I ever caught were on bass lures.

I caught a nice crappie on a small spinner bait and I caught another crappie on a big jerk bait. The crappie on the jerk bait wasn't much bigger than the bait itself.

Biggest Crappie I ever caught was on a big spinner bait while trolling @ 3mph for big northern pike. I thought I had a big bunch of weeds stuck it while I pulled it in and when I got it up to the boat I had a 2.25# crappie (BIG for Minnesota) on the end of the line. Easy to reel in with a heavy action rod and 30# spiderwire on the reel.

In the spring when they are real aggressive ,it's not uncommon for them to hit very large spinner baits. Most think small for Crappie, but most good sized ones here often eat Shad 3 to 4'' and larger.:D I use 1/8 oz leadheads with 2'' Umbrella Tube baits all year long.
