Default Bit by in the nose by a snake....

There was absolutely nothing to do at work so I went and asked my boss for half the day off to go fishing. I got out to one of the tidal sloughs a couple miles from my house and it was about 60 degrees and fairly windy. I started throwing rattle traps for black bass and caught a nice one in the first 10 minutes or so.

I was moving along the levee and I saw a huge gopher snake (4 or 5 feet long). I had goper snakes as pets and this one was a really good looking snake. We don't have a lot of poisonous snakes in the area where I live so I have never been afraid of the local snakes so I went and picked him up maybe thinking of taking him home or something as a pet. He acted real calm, didnt hiss at me or anything so i was holding him loosely. He struck real fast and bit me in the nose. It bled pretty bad, but once I had washed it out with some of the water I had taken with me and it stopped bleeding I kept fishing for a few more hours.

I made the same mistake when I was a kid with a 3' 8" black rat snake. I was at camp when I caught him. I took him to the nature center, and when all the younger kids saw him they started to scream. He freaked out & bit down into my shoulder. We had to use a yard stick to pry his jaws open.

Morale of our stories - Leave wild snakes alone, even if they are good looking pets!

Nah, I was just surprised. I don't even blame the snake. I do have a permanent scar and a little chunk out of the bottom of my nostril though as proof. It's a cool story to tell.
