Line Counter Question

I Like To Use A Spinning Reel All The Time. Seen Some Line Counters To Add To The Pole & Run Your Line Through. It Is Supposed To Tell You How Deep You Are & Or How Much Line You Have Out. Question Can You Cast With These. Never Tried It & Dont Want To Waste Money If They Dont Work. Probably Great For Trooling

You can cast with them but with a spinning reel you need to put it towards your fist eyelet and then it will be upside down on your rod. It's somewhat of a hassle with a spinning reel but can be used for trolling. For vertical fishing I would just drop my bait or jig to the bottom and reel up from there knowing how much line one turn of the reel brings in.
