I wish I could do that stuff. My hands shake like a puppy passing peach seeds. I did good to learn how to paint jig heads. The shaking helped distribute the powder paint evenly.
I have been talking about it for a couple years now, I finally broke down and bought the starter kit at Academy. I need some practice to get them like I want, but for the first three I have ever tied, they don't look too terrible.
First two are buck tail, and the last is from a fallen Quaker parrot feather.(I was after a grasshopper look)
I would appreciate yall's input on them, good and bad. I can handle and recommend constructive criticism if needed.

They look pretty good. YOu said you got the started kid at acadamy. How much did it cost. I happen to be at my Folks house here in East Texas right now and they have an Acadamy here in Lufkin, Texas and I wouldnt mind picking one up.
Soldiers and Firefighters. Some people were meant to call 911, Some were meant to BE 911
40 bucks, and I bought the painted heads. Its actually a FLY tying kit and fly's don't use weighted heads, so there aren't any in the kit. FO4, sent you a pm.

Not bad at all for your 1st! Keep it up and you may need the tax form on the other thread.
You might try tying the tail feathers farther back towards the bend of the hook, like this (step 4 is not necessary):

This is the way I do it. Tied like this, the tail tends to not foul on the hook.
Those look good. My first attempts even made me laugh.
Now you are HOOKED!
I never thought about it but, maybe our quaker has dropped some feathers.

Looking good! Keep it up. Took me a few times to get it corrected but looks like you have it down.
