Thumbs up Idea And Tip For Clouser Minnow Eyes

Here is a neat idea for Clouser Minnow eyes. Use bead chain!

Cut it into "pairs of eyes" Then you can heat it over a candle flame and dip them into powder paint to get a nice even coat. I have been mixing a combination or "Pearl" and "Fluorescent glow-in-the-dark chartreuse" powder paint in a jar and just dip the bead chain eyes into it (one side at a time) Finish the eye with a black pupil. (Use a toothpick or small matchstick and dip it into vinyl jig paint.) Touch the black paint to the eye while the powder paint is still warm and tacky!

Finish by covering with either epoxy or hard as nails clear fingernail polish
and you have eyes for making lures. I usually make 40 pairs of eyes at a time.

Let me know what you think.

Sounds like that would work, but doesn't it make the jigs a little beady eyed?

Here is an example of a clouser with bead chain eyes I copied from the www.

I tried it and it works. I like them.

Saw this trick a few years back. You can also dip them in vinyl paint if you don't care to use powder paint. Or just use them as they are if you don't care about the color eyes. I have a silver chain and a black/antique looking one.

I like the powder painting as opposed to vinyl because it does not chip or peel. You can buy "dumbell eyes" from Cabelas or Jann's netcraft but it gets pricey.

Bead chain turns the fly over just as well so it fished hook side up to avoid weeds. That's what you want. The dimensional and circular shape of the eyes really fools them. I use the chartreuse glow in the dark paint for the iris because it really accentuates the black pupil. You HAVE TO have realistic eyes and neat wraps.

I use regular spinning tackle and fish it under a bobber.
