    Default Humminbird Question

I have a 787c2i mounted on the dash of my boat with a transom mounted transducer. How practicle would it be to rig another trolling motor transducer, power cable and mounting bracket to the front deck so I could just move the unit there while fishing in the front of the boat? It seems that it would be alot cheaper than buying another unit. By the way, I do have an older Eagle on the front now but would like to use the color unit with GPS instead.

    Default Do the math

    Speckhunter,
Not that I wouldn’t want you to buy a new Humminbird unit… but:

A new 787c2i is going to run you about $650.

A power cable, unit mount and transducer will run you far less.
    PC-10 Power Cable ~ $11
    MS-M Unit Mount ~ $33
XTM-9-QB-90-T Trolling Motor Mounted Quadrabeam Transducer ~ $75
    ( XTM-9-20-T Trolling Motor Mounted DualBeam Transducer ~ $60 )

Your choice. Advantages of having the second unit would be that you would not have to move the one you now have back and forth everytime you stop to fish or make a run and you would have a back up unit - just in case.

Thanks Greg. At a sixth of the cost, I know which way to go to keep peace in the house.

and put the gps puck/antenna next to the unit, this will help the distance error that you get by having the puck in the back of the boat and the unit up front,,this means that you are always off by the length of the boat in finding your gps target,,just my 2 cents worth---fuzz

Thanks Fuzz but the 787c2i has an internal GPS antenna. So its reading where ever the unit is located

i think it would be a hassle to move it from one place to another, but it is very exspensive to get another unit also. i dont think you can really win either way, for the cost of another transducer and power cables, you are well on your way to the cost of say, a humminbird 525 or a similar unit.

do you really need the gps on the bow? it would be nice if you mark brushpiles and such, but i think that is getting very picky. imo

Default Techsonic, GPS antennae position, bow mounted GPS...

    FishnLine,
Yes I work at Techsonic Industries, Inc.
We are owned by Johnson Outdoors, Inc. who also owns Minn Kota, Eureka, Silva and a bunch more companies. Since we are mostly known for our Humminbird brand most people just know us as “Humminbird”.

    Old Fuzz,
Actually you want to minimize the distance between the GPS antennae and the transducer to minimize any distance error. It doesn’t matter where the unit is mounted.

    HurricaneJM,
I would think that Crappie fishermen would want a GPS unit on the bow so that you can maintain your position over a single piece of structure.

How long have you worked there? I worked there for a little over a year, but this was around 10 years ago. Back then we running a ton of wide 100's. I was inspecting on the line when I left.

    Default old hand...

I'm telling on myself here but...
I have worked at Humminbird here since 1982 (okay, like my sons constantly remind me, I'm old!). Not sure where I was working back in the Wide 100 days. I was either in the Service or Quality departments.
