I use a 1cc syringe that I use to give myself vitamin b-12 injections and just remove the needle and hollow out the end a little bit and it works just fine. I'm sure the bait pump would work a little better because it was designed to, but I don't have any need for one right now.

I bought one. It looks kinda cheap in the picture but WOW. This thing is cool and very well made. I don't know what material its made of but its solid. I'm very happy with mine.

There is only one guy that sells them that is a member of crappie.com, that is
Slab Hunter from the Louisiana board. I think there are a couple bait shops that he sells too also, just don't know which ones or where...lol.
Back to the pump, I have two of them and Highly recomend them to anyone that uses tube jigs and crappie nibbles. The picture on the website http://thebaitpump.com/ doesn't really do it justice, as Buzz said. I think it is milled out of an acrylic, its not poured in a mold.

It was the best investment I have made for crappie fishing. It is very well made and does a phenomenal job.

You can use it directly in the tube (that's what I do), or you can put a little out at a time and tip the hook with some like my dad does. You save on using the whole nibble that way.

I would not go fishing for crappie without it.
