I have them on mine, and yes its pretty much a straight shot down. BUT, I cant see where you would have a problem as long as your straps are long enough.
Does anyone use the Retractable Transom Tie-Down by Rod Saver that are permanetly mounted to the trailer? Does the boat have to be flush with the back of the trailer for these to work more effectively? My boat overhangs the back of the trailer by about 7.5" and it looks like I would need to fabricate some type of bracket to mount the tie down from the back of my trailer to come out even with the back of the boat.

I had a pair of the RodSaver brands on my last boat, I liked them
but they started giving a little trouble towards the end (I had them about
a year) getting balky about releasing and such. I think I may give the
boat buckle brand a try if I ever get that far along with present boat.
If the straps are touching the boat, looks like it would wear the finish off,
maybe even abrade the straps eventually. Mine were pretty much
a straight shot.

The ones I have are the boat buckle brand, not rod saver, so that could make a difference.
I had the Stainless Boat Buckles for 3 years now and they have been great.
i got mine from wallmart they were cheaper than anyplace else and they included a 800 number if you need the L brackets to bring them out from your trailer, they overnight them for free, i love them.
